Appeal to UUs Interested in Article II Revision...

I'm going to be in the position to present--personally--some reactions and opinions to the draft revision to a member of the CoA.

I'd like to compile the things that are approved/disapproved or and the critique...

I have no idea how much time I'll get (but some, for certain) for this, and I don't know how much this "outside of channels" communication will matter.

But if you're interested... here's a chance.

Note: This is directed specifically to the revision of the draft (or what it should be, reasonably). I'm going to keep this to the topic, narrowly. Strictly salient posts about meaningful revision for good and useful cause--or I'll delete them.

This business about cultural misappropriation is apparently very important.

Looks like some of us have been unknowingly engaged in offensive behavior. I really do not know what to say.

best wishes

Dudley, I'm not sure what your point is. I noted that it's called out in the draft, and I've seen criticism of that. Are you supporting the draft language or the criticism?

I'll just note that the archive you pointed to is 2001. There's a great deal of attention I've seen given to this at G.A. and D.A. and in churches -- and on lists -- in the last several years. That indicates that it's an issue, and that the issue is being given a lot of attention and concern. Does it need to be enshrined in the Bylaws and amidst Article II?

The idea of some people examining other people for inappropriate mixing of cultures is not a positive development, in my view.

For example, using both Theravada and Mahayana elements in a meditation practice is apparently offensive. Why? What is wrong with that? Why is it a problem? Why would anyone actually care about something like that?
